The Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at UConn Health is a newly established transplant center serving patients across central Connecticut. As Connecticut’s only public academic medical center, UConn Health helps ensure that advanced transplant services are accessible to some of the state’s most vulnerable populations.
Since launching in the last few years, the UConn BMT team has successfully performed more than a dozen transplants with excellent outcomes. The program includes 15 dedicated faculty and staff who deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care throughout the transplant journey. UConn Health has also partnered with external consultants and national experts, as well as strong internal clinical, business, and administrative leadership, to build a program grounded in best practices and continuous quality improvement.
UConn Health and the transplant program are committed to bringing cutting-edge therapies directly to the community, with near-term plans to introduce chimeric antigen receptor cell therapy (CAR-T), followed by gene therapy and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The program is currently pursuing accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
Current services include:
• Mobilization and apheresis of stem cells
• High-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation
• Post-transplant follow-up care, including vaccinations
The BMT Clinic provides consultative services as well as short-term, long-term, and survivorship follow-up visits for any transplant patient, including those who have undergone transplant at outside centers.
