The William G. Pomeroy Foundation is committed to working to improve the probability of finding appropriate donor matches or other life-saving treatments for blood cancer patients. Based in Syracuse, NY, the Foundation’s mission began in 2005 when Founder and Trustee Bill Pomeroy was fighting Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Fortunately, Bill was matched with a donor and received a lifesaving stem cell transplant.
During his treatment he learned about the urgent need to diversify the bone marrow registry. This was the genesis of the Foundation and its first initiative: to diversify the bone marrow donor registry so that anyone, from any ethnic background, can find a matched donor. The Foundation partners with organizations who share the goal to advance this lifesaving work. To date the Pomeroy Foundation has matched nearly 130 patients with donors.
